On 15 November, Paul Jervis, Head of Hospitality and Culinary Arts at Westminster Kingsway College, was accepted as a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Cooks. Paul was sworn in during a traditional ceremony which was followed by a confirmation dinner at Innholders Hall.
The Worshipful Company of Cooks is a Livery Company (London’s version of a Guild) dating back to the 11th Century. Since its inception, the Company of Cooks has worked to support the craft of cookery and regulate the profession in the City of London as well as providing charitable support to a range of organisations.
It is the smallest Livery Company with around 200 members but is incredibly active in supporting the hospitality industry with charitable activities. The company uses its industry knowledge and expertise to advance the craft of cookery.
Paul will go on to be involved in the organisation’s ceremonies, but will also support events taking place with local schools and promotions for the hospitality industry.
Paul Jervis said: “I’m very proud to join the company. It dates back to 1482 under the Royal Charter. It’s special to become a part of the history of this Company.”
