CCC students Rosa Elizabeth Sarango Romero and Grace Olaleye have succeeded in reaching the National Qualifying stage of the WorldSkills Competition. Rosa is currently studying for the Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical Special Effects, Hair and Media Make-up, after previously completing Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy courses with CCC. Rosa took part in the WorldSkills Competition last year, reaching the second stage in the regional heats. and has returned to the competition in 2025. Rosa is joined by fellow student Grace, who is currently completing a Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing.

During the first stage of the competition, Rosa and Grace created a modern ladies’ commercial style incorporating both waves and curls. They submitted their styles to the judges, where they were assessed based on styling skills, finishing skills, shape and balance. This year’s WorldSkills Competition saw a record number of entries, meaning that the competition was of a very high standard. To progress beyond the preliminary stages, students had to achieve a minimum score of 60%. Both Rosa and Grace achieved the scores needed to participate in the Southern Region National Qualifier, which will take place on 25 June 2025 at Kingston College.

Designed by industry experts, the WorldSkills Competition is a development programme aiming to encourage young people from all backgrounds and of all abilities to develop their skills. The competition allows students to assess their skills and knowledge against their peers, fostering greater confidence and increasing potential.

Joan Bardouille, Course Team Leader for Hairdressing, said: “Competitions like WorldSkills UK really give learners the opportunity to express themselves within this creative industry, showcasing their talent, passion, and dedication. I’m incredibly proud of my two learners who have made it through to the regional events — a true testament to their hard work and commitment to excellence.”

Grace Olaleye said: “Just when I was ready to give up, I discovered what I was truly capable of. Being selected for WorldSkills UK has reignited my passion and proves that perseverance leads to opportunities.”
We wish both students the best of luck at the National Qualifiers of the WorldSkills Competition 2025.
