Two basketball teams from The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London (CONEL) and City and Islington College (CANDI) represented Capital City College Group (CCCG) at the SCORE Centre in Leyton on 22 November. They took part in an intense competition and played some of the region’s top basketball teams.
The CONEL basketball team faced a difficult start to the competition with a narrow 11-9 victory in their opening game. The team soon found its rhythm and went on to have five consecutive wins. The CANDI basketball team also had notable victories and finished third in the competition.
The TEAM CCCG SPORT volleyball team also showcased their remarkable skills and experienced sporting success. Despite only having become a team four weeks before the tournament, the players demonstrated their enormous potential and came second in the regional volleyball competition.
Thanks to their excellent performances, all three have secured their places in the upcoming AOC Sport National Championships which will take place on 19 April 2024 in Nottingham.
Jonathan Silman, the Head of Sport for CCCG, and Rob Murphy, the Sports Development Manager, were both delighted with the achievements of TEAM CCCG SPORT. Jonathan Silman said: “Our ambition is to become the number one Sports college in the country. The rapid growth of our Sports Academies, combined with a strong desire and a collectively group-wide approach, is fast-tracking our goal.”
