Students from a number of Capital City College (CCC) Level 2 and Level 3 Creative Media courses attended the Brief Launch Day for the Rising Talent Awards 2026.

Rising Talent is a project-based competition from the University of East London (UEL) that aims to empower a diverse range of student talent to reshape culture through original works of art and media. Every year, students are challenged to create a piece of media in response to a brief that encourages them to engage with a current cultural or societal theme, and the initiative provides a platform for young creatives to showcase their work to a global audience.

In November, Creative Media students from CCC’s Tottenham, Enfield and Holloway campuses attended the Rising Talent 2026 launch event which took place at UEL. During the event, the students heard about the brief for this year’s competition and took part in a Q&A session. The theme for the Rising Talent Awards 2026 is ‘Sustainable Cities’, a topic that strongly reflects current global development efforts. Students entering the competition are encouraged to respond to the theme and explore the idea of making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Entries can take the form of animation, film, games, media or digital communication.

At the event, the students also completed quizzes which supported them in learning more about both UEL and the Rising Talent initiative. Many of the CCC students who attended were enthusiastic about getting started on their entries for the competition, recognising it as a valuable opportunity to develop their creative and professional skills.

The competition also supports student progress by incorporating student presentations and feedback sessions in early 2026 before the submission deadline in March 2026. This offers those involved the chance to refine their work, build industry connections and network with more experienced creatives.

Marek Morzuch, Lecturer in Creative Media said, “The event provided a meaningful and motivating experience for the learners, supporting their progression and engagement with higher education pathways.”
