Politics - A Level (Edexcel)

Politics allows you to understand and study issues that affect us all, looking specifically at the UK and European Union, democracy and participation and the various political points of view. The course covers three main elements: UK politics, UK government and comparative politics.

Topics covered can include:

UK Politics

• Democracy and participation

• Voting behaviour and the media
• Conservatism, liberalism, socialism

UK Government 

• The constitution
• Parliament
• Prime Minister and executive
• Relationships between the branches
• Anarchism, ecologism, feminism, multiculturalism, nationalism

Comparative Politics

• Sovereignty and globalisation
• Global governance: political and economic
• Global governance: human rights and environmental
• Power and developments
• Regionalism and the European Union

During the 1st year, there will be 5 formal internal assessments that you will need to pass in order to progress into the 2nd year. At the end of the 2nd year, there are three public examinations.

Aged 16-18

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August prior to the start date of your course and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your programme then your study with us will be free. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

A Levels are widely regarded as the standard entry qualification for top universities in the UK, and the rest of the world. Many of our students go on to study for a degree at the university of their choice, with some choosing to progress into apprenticeships or other employment.
