ABOUT
This course provides the fundamental knowledge and understanding of Health and Social Care principles.
The certificate has mandatory units as well as a choice of optional specialist units, thereby providing an opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the Health and Social Care sector, including factors that affect individuals’ lifestyle choices and their health; and the effective communication skills that can be transferred to other sectors.
In addition, the course introduces a limited number of specialist areas and the opportunity to acquire some of the practical skills identified by employers as the fundamental building blocks for future competence in the care sector workplace.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
You will study a range of units as part of the health and social care qualification.
To provide a flavour of what these might be, they may include topics on:
Human lifespan development
Health and Social Care values
Effective communication
Healthy living
Human body systems
Promoting health and well-being
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You will have gained a minimum of a grade 3 in GCSE Mathematics and and also a grade 3 in GCSE English before this course.
COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS
You will be assessed by external examination and assignment completion or coursework.

PROGRESSION
Learners who have successfully completed this qualification can progress onto a Level 3 Health and Social Care course if the relevant GCSE qualifications have also been met.

ABOUT
This course covers a wide range of vocational units relating to health and social care, specifically designed to help you pursue a career in the sector.
You will learn about a variety of settings, including residential homes, being a health care assistant in the community, delivering primary care, acute health environments, hospitals, supported living or day services and community-based support.
The course has been developed in conjunction with sector experts, employers and Higher Education institutions, to equip you with the skills needed to deliver high-quality care and support, and the units you study have been mapped to the standards within the Care Certificate and National Occupational Standards.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You will need:
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language and Maths, or relevant Level 1 course with Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 1
A reference from your previous school/college
All applicants must have an interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS
The course is assessed throughout the year and with an end-of-course portfolio.
