ABOUT
Criminology is the study of why crime occurs. In this A Level equivalent, you will study a range of theories of why individuals commit crimes, as well as how society manages crime. Criminology is an interdisciplinary subject which means that it draws on psychological, sociological, and biological theories as well as looking at how crime is dealt with by law and by governments.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
King's Cross centre
You will need:
- Three GCSEs at grade 5 or above, including Maths and English Language, plus two further GCSEs at grade 4
- If your English Language GCSE is at grade 5, one of your three GCSEs at grade 5 or above must be a literary subject (e.g. History, Business Studies, Sociology, Geography)
- A reference from your previous school/college
All applicants must have an interview to confirm that an A Level programme is suitable for them.
Please be aware that as this subject includes coursework, you will only be permitted to have a choice of one other subject which includes coursework. Your third subject choice must be an exam-only assessed subject. For example, you would not be permitted to take Criminology, English Language & Literature and History as these all include coursework.

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS
The course is assessed via a mix of controlled assessment and traditional exam questions. The first and third units are assessed through 8-hour-controlled assessments, where you have access to your notes to complete an unseen brief. The second and fourth units are assessed through 1.5 hour exams, which will take place in May/June.

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August prior to the start date of your course and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your programme then your study with us will be free. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. PROGRESSION
This A Level equivalent can provide a background for further study in Criminology, Psychology, Sociology and Law, as well as synoptic links with subjects such as Media Studies, Biology, Government and Politics. An A Level programme is widely regarded as the standard entry qualification for top universities in the UK, and the rest of the world. Many of our students go on to study for a degree at the university of their choice, with some choosing to progress into apprenticeships or other employment.
