What does sustainable construction look like? At Capital City College (CCC)’s Tottenham campus, students were given a unique insight into the future of sustainable construction during a special visit from Equans UK & Ireland, a major employer in the green and construction sectors.
Held on 22 October, the session was attended by 13 CCC students who recently completed their Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit. Organised to support their progression into green careers, the visit featured an engaging presentation and discussion led by Gemma Sutherland, Sustainability Manager at Equans.
Gemma shared details of Equans’ current retrofit projects and highlighted the growing demand for skilled professionals in this field. She explained that London alone needs to retrofit approximately 2 million homes by 2030 – a challenge that presents huge opportunities for those with the right knowledge and training.
One student said: “The session was highly informative and provided me with further understanding of the importance of retrofit and how vital it is to have the knowledge and skill.”
The visit was part of CCC’s ongoing commitment to connect students with industry leaders and equip them with the skills needed to thrive in the green economy.
At CCC, the Green Skills Academy provides training to produce skilled workers able to retrofit environmentally friendly energy systems and emerging green technologies to reduce emissions and address the long-standing skills shortages in the construction sector.
