Sport-loving Capital City College (CCC) students travelled to the University of Nottingham this month to compete at the 46th Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport National Championships. Our students returned with medals, memories, and a stronger team bond on and off the court.

One of the most prestigious annual events in the college sport calendar, the AoC Sport National Championships brings together students from colleges across the country to compete in sports they love, form lasting friendships, and represent their college on the national stage.

CCC’s delegation included the men’s basketball team, the netball squad, and three table tennis players, all of whom represented the college with distinction across the action-packed weekend of friendly competition.

The weekend started memorably with Capital City College students Daisy Lennox and Bobby Windsor selected to captain the London region and carry the flag at the opening ceremony; a proud moment for our college and the wider London region.

Here are the highlights from a weekend of sporting excellence that made Capital City College proud:

Men’s Basketball: Silver Medal (2nd Place): Our men’s basketball team won three out of four group-stage matches to secure a place in the semi-finals. After a strong victory over Moulton College, they lost 22-19 to Xaverian College in the tightly-contested final to claim a well-deserved silver medal.

Table Tennis (Women’s) – Silver Medal (Individual) and Bronze Medal (Regional): Lianna Shilani Tousi won 7 of her 8 matches, and her only defeat came against the eventual champion from Scarborough College. Her exceptional performance earned her an individual silver medal and helped London secure a regional bronze medal.

Table Tennis (Men’s) – 7th Place: Nam Hoang and Ellijah Auguste secured outstanding match wins and showed resilience against strong opposition, finishing in 7th place overall.

Netball – 10th place: The netball team showed real determination and team spirit in a competitive performance that won them 10th place.

Robert Murphy, Sports Development Manager at Capital City College said:“I couldn’t be prouder of the students, not just for their results, but for how they conducted themselves throughout the competition. They supported each other, competed with integrity and embraced every moment. Their attitude, effort, and teamwork were first class, and they represented the college brilliantly on a national stage. It’s an experience they’ll remember for a long time.”

London finished 7th overall in the regional standings, and our determined students contributed to the region’s success at every turn. You can see all the results from the weekend of sporting excellence here, and catch the team in action in a selection of photos.

If you’re already looking forward to next year’s National Championships, save the date for 16th-18th April 2027. We have no doubt our teams will be back out in force to make us proud!

If you want to follow in the footsteps of our sporting stars, Capital City College’s Sports Academies are open to any student aged 16-19 enrolled on one of our courses, offering opportunities across a wide range of sports including athletics, football, basketball, netball, and esports.
