Lights, camera, action! Introducing the National Saturday Film and Screen Club!

Saturday Club

We’re shining a light on the National Saturday Club for Film and Screen.

Every Saturday morning during term time, a group of 13 to 16-year-old students arrive at our Enfield Centre for three hours of learning about the art of storytelling and filmmaking on the big screen, led by Natasha and Panagiotis from CCC’s Creative and Computing curriculum team.

The creative sessions are part of the National Saturday Club, a free nationwide programme that gives young people access to high-quality specialist education outside of school and their regular curriculum.

Through hands-on workshops and practical activities, students get stuck in and explore every stage of the filmmaking process, from idea development and scriptwriting to production and editing, working collaboratively to bring their ideas to life.

Whether they come with previous skills and knowledge in artistic fields such as photography, art or writing, or if they’re simply curious to learn more about the art of filmmaking, the club gives everyone the chance to discover film as a powerful medium of expression.

As one club member put it: “It’s opened up a whole new world for us. It can change your life”, with another member describing it as “the highlight of the week.”

Beyond the Saturday sessions, members also get access to free national events including the Summer Show, where Saturday Clubs from across the country exhibit their work in a public exhibition, and Masterclasses with leading industry professionals. Previous cohorts have worked with Adobe as part of the club’s national masterclass programme.

The programme runs for 30 weeks across the academic year, restarting at Capital City College in November following the October half-term. Students can join at any point up until the Easter half-term, though early enrolment is encouraged to get the most out of the experience.

Many who have completed the programme have gone on to enrol on post-16 courses at Capital City College, a testament to the genuine impact the course had on their confidence, skills, and creative ambitions.

Historically the programme has welcomed four to five students per cohort, but we’re keen to grow its impact and increase numbers to 10-15 students per cohort. With funding recently secured to support the programme for another three years, the building blocks to make this happen are already firmly in place.

To help spread the word and reach more young people, we’re hosting a free information session on Thursday 11th June from 11am to 12pm at the Enfield Centre, aimed at local community organisations and charities that work with young people.

It’s a chance to find out more about the club, how referrals work, and how you can help young people in your community get involved. After the session, you’re invited to watch our Creative and Computing End of Year Show from 12pm to 3pm, open to students, parents, and carers.

If you know a young person who would thrive in a creative, supportive environment on a Saturday morning, we’d love to hear from you. Come register for the information session or find out more about the club online.
