Capital City College students recently starred in an inspiring fashion show designed to spotlight empowerment and confidence for young women.

A partnership brought about by Central District Alliance, which promotes the environment, sustainability, and business development, saw our student union at our King’s Cross campus organise an incredible in-house fashion show.

In collaboration with the charity, Dress for Success Greater London, our students showcased its brilliant work in supporting women to become empowered, employed and economically independent.

Dress for Success Greater London provides clothing and support for women who have interviews to attend, but who do not have suitably smart clothes to make the best impression. By providing professional outfits, Dress for Success Greater London is helping to equip disadvantaged women with what they need to help them build a brilliant future.

Student Fatima Mukhtar described the experience of stepping into a modelling role in the fashion show as “unique”. Styled, and with professional makeup, Fatima confidently walked the runway in an outfit she helped to select and bring to life.

Fatima said: “What made it even more meaningful was working with a charity that empowers women through fashion and confidence. It was inspiring to see how clothing can be used not just for style, but to uplift and support others.”

The fashion show was led by members of the CCC student union and involved student models, student stylists from our Arts department, as well as students from our Hair and Beauty courses visiting from our Tottenham campus. Going far above and beyond, our students brought their exciting creativity and originality to life in a spectacular fashion, and used social media to raise awareness of Dress for Success Greater London and its important mission. This event was all about fashion, sustainability, confidence and youth empowerment.

Juanita Ingram, Esq., Founder and Chairman, Board of Trustees, at Dress for Success Greater London, said: “For over a decade, Dress for Success Greater London has believed that confidence is the most powerful thing anyone can wear. Today, Capital City College and Central District Alliance have given their students a platform to live that truth, blending sustainability, style, and self-belief in a way that is genuinely inspiring. We are proud to stand alongside them.”

Students took part in the fashion show as catwalk models, stylists, content creators, photographers, hair and makeup artists, and event coordinators. During the show, CCC students promoted sustainable fashion, and youth leadership and empowerment. It was a brilliant opportunity for our students to gain valuable real-life experience, while demonstrating the enormous talent among our student body.

Priscilla Diakanda, Enrichment Officer at CCC, said: “Today’s event was a fantastic collaboration. Our students worked really hard on this project and had a wonderful time. We hope to organise more events like this where we can support student learning and collaborate with charities and employers to promote fashion, sustainability, confidence building and community engagement.”

Overcoming barriers to work is essential to ensure all students have the chance to thrive. The students themselves were at the heart of the fashion show, proving that with self-belief, hard work and mountains of motivation, barriers can fall away. This is the power of purpose-driven collaboration and shows what fashion can stand for when it is in the right hands!

Wayne Lewis, ESG Project Manager at Central District Alliance, said: “Today was fantastic. The diversity, talent and enthusiasm of the students was perfect. Today’s fashion show was a demonstration of how our work with charities and colleges can come to life on the catwalk.”

Fatima said: “I’m really grateful to have been part of something so creative and impactful, definitely a day I won’t forget!”

Our thanks go to Dress for Success Greater London, Central District Alliance and our colleagues and students at CCC for making this event such a phenomenal success.
