Capital City College gives students a warm welcome with a series of Freshers’ Fairs

Students beginning or continuing their studies at various college centres began the new academic year with a range of informative and engaging Freshers’ events.

A series of Freshers Fairs took place across our centres to welcome students to the Capital City College.

Around 800 students at the Angel centre attended a Freshers’ event on 11 September. The event at the Finsbury Park centre took place on 17 September and involved 274 students. The Holloway centre Freshers’ Fair welcomed 640 students to the centre on 18 September.

During the events, students had the opportunity to visit stalls offering information on the college’s student services and talk to members of staff from enrichment, careers, welfare, counselling, wellbeing, work experience, student finance and additional learning support departments. Students were able to take home leaflets and branded items to remind them of the extensive support and resources available within the college.

A wide variety of student-led clubs covering a number of interests from Crochet to Criminology advertised their activities and attracted new members at the Freshers’ Fairs.

Also in attendance were a broad offering of external community organisations sharing information about their services such as Access to Sports, which offers sports sessions, and Brook, which provides sexual health and wellbeing support. Students could also find out about joining volunteering programmes and community projects through organisations such as the Islington Youth Council.

To support students considering their post-study pathways, there were also several organisations sharing resources relating to mentoring, careers and apprenticeship opportunities.
