CCC Iftar event highlights community spirit, generosity and belonging across college

Last month, an Iftar celebration at the Angel Campus brought the college community together for an inclusive evening of food and friendship.

Members of the Capital City College (CCC) community came together for an Iftar event at the Angel campus on 12 March.

The event was a warm and welcoming celebration of togetherness, as students and staff observing Ramadan were joined by fellow classmates and colleagues as they broke their fast. The Iftar event took place in the Angel Campus canteen, which had been specially decorated to create a festive and inviting atmosphere.

At the appropriate time, the fast was broken with dates and water, followed by a selection of dishes generously provided by Gökyüzü, Domino’s, GDK, and KFC. This was followed by a dessert buffet featuring an array of sweet treats including baklava, cakes and a selection of cheesecakes.

The event provided an opportunity for the attendees to share a moment of reflection, learn more about each other’s beliefs and cultures, and engage in conversation while sharing a meal with members of their college community.

The college’s Enrichment team organised the event with support from a number of student volunteers. With 110 students and 18 members of staff in attendance from a variety of religious and cultural backgrounds, the Iftar event reflected the college’s values of unity, respect, and inclusion.

Dominic Eady, Assistant Principal, said: “It was fantastic to see so many of our students and staff coming together to share a meal in the spirit of community and celebration. Many thanks to the Enrichment team who planned and organised the event – a lot of work and preparation went on behind the scenes to make sure everything ran smoothly.”

Aleena Sharif, Enrichment Officer, said: “While breaking the fast is an important part of iftar, the event represented much more than that – it highlighted a strong sense of community, generosity and togetherness. There was a genuine feeling of belonging throughout the evening, and it was wonderful to walk around and see everyone connecting, sharing the experience and enjoying themselves.”

At CCC, we build community and embrace the diversity of our students and staff throughout the year.

With events such as these, along with our membership of organisations such as Race Equality Matters, we continue to show both meaningful and active commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
