Care for under 18s

Information for parents and carers

We recognise that parents and carers play a vital role in helping young people move from school to college, and in supporting them in decision making about their education and future.

At Capital City College Group, we are dedicated to providing an exceptional experience for your child and are committed to working with you to help your child achieve their goals and succeed whilst studying at college. Coming to college is different to staying on at school or going to a sixth form centre; here, your child will be treated like an adult, giving them the independence necessary for university and employment. Each of our students are individuals – whether they are following an academic or vocational route – and we offer each of them unique support to help them achieve their goals and succeed whilst at college.

Accommodation

If you are under 18 we will arrange homestay accommodation for you unless we receive written confirmation from you and your parents/guardians of an appropriate alternate arrangement. We work with select Homestay agencies who meet the standards to register with the British Council as a provider of homestay. Homes are inspected at least once every 2 years and the lead carer is DBS checked. Breakfast and dinner are provided as standard and a curfew time each night is imposed for all under 18s.

Supervision

Our colleges do not provide 24-hour supervision. You are free to join the clubs taking place after your classes or spend time in the learning resource centre. The college will provide advice on how to stay safe out of college hours during your induction. You will be provided with out of hours contact numbers for both the International team at the college and your homestay provider for use in case of emergency.

Internet Access

Free access to WIFI and computers/laptops is available for all students studying at the Sixth Form Centre. You will be provided with instructions for how to access at enrolment. Our servers are set to block content not suitable for under 18s.

Travel

For your arrival into a London airport we’ll arrange an airport transfer for you. You will be provided with a Student Oyster travelcard on your arrival for use on London public transport (bus, train, underground). You will use public transport to get to the college each day from your homestay. Your homestay will assist you with the safest and most direct route to the college on your first day, thereafter you will travel independently.

Safeguarding

We are committed to providing all of our learners a safe and supportive learning environment. As part of your induction we will provide you with important information for staying safe while you study with us. We have comprehensive policies and procedures in place for safeguarding and child protection, see here: Our Policies, Reports and Strategies – Capital City College Group and all members of our staff have received appropriate training in these areas.
