
The art and design industry is where creativity, talent and energy combine, offering a wide variety of careers. You will have the opportunity to study and develop skills in Art, Design, Fashion and Textiles and choose a specialist route to take in the future. We will help you to arrange a work placement in industry so you can develop your employability skills, attitudes and behaviours that are expected in the workplace.
Topics covered can include: Drawing and illustration Contextual studies Visual research, design and presentation Computers in art and design 3D design and model-making Printmaking Pattern construction and garment making Textiles and surface decoration Employment in the creative industries
You will need: Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above which must include English Language or Maths, or equivalent Functional Skills A portfolio of your art and design workAll applicants must have an interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
The course is assessed throughout the year and with an end-of-course portfolio.
If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. This course will help you to move on to higher level courses such as our Level 3 courses, specialising in an area of art and design or fashion and communication.
