About the Course

Are you curious about how wages are calculated — or want to gain skills that could open doors to office, admin, or finance roles?
Our Payroll Fundamentals course is the perfect starting point for beginners!

In this practical class, you’ll learn how payroll works from start to finish — from understanding payslips and deductions to calculating take-home pay. You’ll explore key terms like PAYE, National Insurance, and pensions, and even create your own sample payslips.

No experience? No problem! We’ll guide you step by step, using real-life examples and simple exercises that build your confidence with numbers.

What Will I Study?

  • Understand how employees get paid and what affects their pay.
  • Know what information HMRC requires for payroll.
  • Be ready to progress to further study in bookkeeping, accounting, or office administration.
  • Learn the basic of Payroll software

What Will I Need?

Please be prepared to provide your residency documents such as a passport, Evisa / Sharecode , UK Birth Certificate or Biometric Card. If you have been in the UK for less than 3 years or have entered the UK with a visa you will need to provide evidence that you are eligible to study in the UK and your EVisa or Biometric card or any relevant home office documents to support your residency  covers the duration of your course . For funding purposes we would need to see evidence of payslips if working (within the last 3 months). If you are receiving benefits please provide evidence if this also (e.g JSA, ESA, Universal Credit (UC).

Free unless earning over £28,860pa (then £60)

What Can I Do After?

Upon completing the course successfully, you can progress to Level 1 Computerised Payroll for Business.
