This course offers the City and Guilds 6035 qualification and will allow you to build on your knowledge of plumbing and domestic heating, giving you more advanced practical skills and knowledge required by someone aspiring to be a plumber.
Typical tasks of a plumber include:
- Repairs burst pipes, replaces faulty taps, washers, valves and fixes mechanical and combustion faults;
- Attaches fittings and joins piping by welding, soldering, cementing, fusing etc.
- Installs storage tanks, bathes toilets etc.
- Examines drawings and specifications to determine layouts of systems.

- Safety in plumbing
- Key plumbing principles
- Common plumbing principles
- Hot and cold water
- Central heating systems (pipework only)
- Non-complex electrical systems
- Sanitation systems
- Sheet lead weathering
- Environmental awareness
- Working with others
The study programme consists of a vocational diploma, Maths and English, work experience and essential digital skills.
You will need:
- GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above.
All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
You will also need stationery, overalls and safety boots.
You will be assessed on your completed practical tasks, against industry standards. Written assessment will include multiple choice questions, paper-based exams and written assignments.
AGED 16 - 18
If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August 2025 before the start date of the course, and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your course then your study with us will be free.

Adults - LEVEL 2
This course may be free for you if you meet certain conditions:
- If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
- If you are aged 19-23 and you do not have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade 9-4. You need to show us proof of any qualifications you already have.
- Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions.
- There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.
If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

Once you've successfully completed the Plumbing and Domestic Heating City & Guilds 6035 Diploma at Level 2, you could progress to Plumbing and Domestic Heating Diploma Level 3 or enrol on an apprenticeship.
