ABOUT

The course aims to provide opportunities for young adults to increase their knowledge of theatre, acting and performance practices, and to gain access to both vocational and higher education in this area.

The emphasis of the course is the development of skills in acting, performance and movement and how they interrelate with each other to create exciting new approaches in performance.

Practical classes in contemporary and classical performance techniques will be complemented by theoretical studies. Research skills will be developed through the study of dramatic history, which will include critical debate around current drama and performance work.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will learn the essential skills needed to make progress within the Performing Arts and Acting Industry, taking you a step closer to gaining employment in this area.

This is a one-year course that is designed as a precursor to the two-year Level 3 Performing and Production Arts course.

The completion of the first two units will grant you an Award. This is designed as an introduction to the course and its expectations. This is followed by 7 more units that make up your Level 2 Diploma.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 and above in English Language, or equivalent Functional Skills
  • A reference from your previous school/college
  • Attend a workshop audition at the college

All applicants must have an audition to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS

Some units are assessed mainly through written work. Some will be assessed through small performances presented to other members of your class. Some areas are assessed by means of large-scale, public performances to an invited audience.
