ABOUT

This nail technology course introduces you to the nail care and enhancement section of the beauty therapy sector, equipping you with basic skills in manicures, pedicures, and nail art. Nail technology is a growing area in the UK, with the average British woman spending £450 on their nails each year and visiting a nail salon at least twice a month.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Topics covered can include:

  • Manicure and pedicure services
  • Gel Polish
  • Anatomy and physiology of the hands and feet
  • Introduction to working in the nail industry
  • Nail enhancements
  • Nail art services
  • Employer engagement activities
  • Health and safety
  • Client care and salon reception duties
  • Promote and retail products/services
  • Eye treatments, make-up and tanning opportunities
  • Creating an image

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above or a relevant Level 1 qualification

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS

You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, collected from written assessments, presentations, witness statements and practice observation.

FEES

Adults - LEVEL 2

This course may be free for you if you meet certain conditions:

  • If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
  • If you are aged 19-23 and you do not have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade 9-4. You need to show us proof of any qualifications you already have.
  • Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions.
  • There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.

If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

PROGRESSION

To prepare learners for employment as a junior nail technicians, learners may choose to develop their skills further by undertaking qualifications at Level 3, these may include:

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services
  • Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology
  • Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology Studies
