Are you interested in fitness and wellbeing? Do you want to be a fitness instructor? If so, then this is the course for you.
This is a brand-new, industry-leading qualification designed by YMCA Awards and endorsed by CIMPSA, which will equip you with all the knowledge, skills, and qualifications to become a gym instructor. Health and fitness are thriving areas, with countless job opportunities.
The Level 2 Diploma in Exercise and Fitness: Gym Instructor is a 6-month/18-week course that provides the qualifications to work in a gym or leisure centre.
The course will run on two evenings per week, for 18 weeks (February to July) and is for adults only (19 years old and above).
If you are 16 to 18 years old, then please apply for the Exercise and Fitness: Gym Instructor and Personal Training - Level 3 YMCA Diploma at the Enfield centre.
If you already hold a certified Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, please apply for the Exercise and Fitness: Personal Training - Level 3 YMCA Diploma at the Enfield centre.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
Units you will cover:
- Principles of Physical Activity, Exercise and Training Approaches to Develop Fitness and Health
- Plan, Deliver and Evaluate Gym-Based Training
- Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise and Fitness Professionals
- Providing a Positive Customer Experience to Exercise and Fitness Participants
- Health Screening, Risk Stratification and Scope of Practice
- Health Awareness and Lifestyle Management
- Supporting Clients in a Gym-Based Environment
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You are required to have:
- Either 4x GCSE at grade 3 or above (including English and Maths) or an equivalent Level 1 qualification. Other lower qualifications may be considered, dependent on past experience.
You will be required to provide a client (friend or family member) for your practical assessments.
COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS
The course is a mixture of practical and theoretical units.
Assessment will be conducted via:

- Worksheets

- Applied case studies
- Exercise induction portfolio
- Session planning documents
- Observation of practical skills
- Evaluation documents
FEES
Adults - LEVEL 2
This course may be free for you if you meet certain conditions:
- If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
- If you are aged 19-23 and you do not have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade 9-4. You need to show us proof of any qualifications you already have.
- Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions.
- There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.
If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

The course requires the wearing of sports clothing and footwear. There is no requirement to purchase any further course materials or textbooks. You will be required to provide a client (friend or family member) for your practical assessments.
PROGRESSION
This qualification is an occupational entry qualification. This means it meets the agreed industry prerequisites to enter the sport and physical activity sector as an employed or self-employed Gym Instructor.
This qualification can also lead to further training at the same and/or higher level to specialise and further increase the scope of practice.
