ABOUT
If you want to learn basic counselling skills, such as how to listen and respond well, this course could be for you.
It’s a good option if you’re interested in working in a helping role, or if you want to find out more about counselling before choosing to study it further.
This course starts in September and lasts for 1 term.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
You will study the following learning outcomes:
Working within the limitations of a helping role
Establish boundaries for helping roles
Communicate empathetic understanding
Focus on the helpee's agenda
Understand the importance of self-awareness in helping work
Use listening and responding skills
Use review and feedback to develop initial counselling skills
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no entry requirements for this course. You will be invited to an interview to see if this course is right for you.
COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS
All work is internally assessed via coursework.
FEES
Adults - LEVEL 2
This course may be free for you if you meet certain conditions:
If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
If you are aged 19-23 and you do not have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade 9-4. You need to show us proof of any qualifications you already have.
Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions.
There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.
If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

PROGRESSION
Once you have completed this qualification you may choose to progress onto the CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
