ABOUT

The Level 2 Certificate in Caring for Children and Young People will give learners a basic understanding of childcare and education, as well as parenting and babysitting. It will also help them to make an informed choice about working with children and young people.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Units are selected from the following:

  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • Introductory awareness of sensory loss
  • Importance of play for early learning
  • Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet
  • The value of play to young children
  • Young children’s development
  • Craft activities with young children
  • Accident prevention and fire safety when babysitting
  • Caring for young children in a babysitting environment
  • Rights and responsibilities in relation to parenting
  • Parenting and healthy lifestyles
  • Parenting a young baby
  • Respecting and valuing children
  • Children’s play and leisure activities in the community
  • Sharing learning experiences with children

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need:

  • A grade 3 or above in GCSE Maths and English Language.

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS

It will be assessed by your Tutor or Assessor using a range of methods. This could include tasks, coursework or methods such as oral questioning.

FEES

Adults - LEVEL 2

This course may be free for you if you meet certain conditions:

  • If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
  • If you are aged 19-23 and you do not have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade 9-4. You need to show us proof of any qualifications you already have.
  • Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions.
  • There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.

If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

Some courses have additional costs, such as for specialist materials and trips.

This course is free to study for all learners aged 16-18.

PROGRESSION

This qualification is not a licence to practice. It is designed to help learners progress onto higher-level qualifications in childcare and education, which may eventually lead to job roles such as a practitioner in day nurseries, a practitioner in nursery schools, a practitioner in reception classes in primary schools, or a pre-school worker.
