ABOUT THE COURSE
This course has been designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree level study or employment in the media sector. You will have the opportunity to explore creative image production and manipulation, animation, historical and contextual investigation. Your lessons will take place in our industry-standard suites, equipped with Adobe Creative Cloud on Apple iMacs, as well as giving you access to state-of-the-art cameras, tripods, green screen facilities and more. There will also trips and visits, and guest talks from industry experts.
Extended Diplomas have two one-year programmes. You need to finish the first year before moving on to the second.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
You will develop the following skills:
Unit 9: Characteristics and Contexts in Media and Communication
Unit 10: Engaging with an Audience in Creative Media Production
Unit 11: Preparation for progression in Creative Media Production
Unit 12: Specialist Study in Creative Media Production
Unit 13: Extended Project in Creative Media Production (FMP)
WHAT WILL I NEED?
You will need:
Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English or an equivalent Level 2 qualification at Merit (and Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 2/GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 4 or above)
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will be assessed continually through practical project work, coursework, written assignments and presentations. You will complete four practical projects and be assessed by portfolio. Your final project will be assessed by the examining board
WHAT WILL IT COST?
Aged 16-18
If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August prior to the start date of your course and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your programme then your study with us will be free. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

Adults - Level 3
If you will be aged 19 to 23 prior to the start date of your course, and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification, you may be eligible for a Level 3 entitlement, in which case your study with us will be free. If you are older, or already have a Level 3, we have many other Level 3 courses that are also free to study. Otherwise, you will have to pay the fees yourself or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

MEET SOME OF THE TEACHERS
Scarlett Squire
With over eight years of experience teaching Creative Media, Scarlett has developed a passion for the creative industires with a specialisim in broadcast journalism and video production. Scarlett's current position is Learning Manager for Level 1 and Level 2 Creative Media at CONEL, however, Scarlett teaches across the board on all levels courses within the department. Scarlett's educational background includes BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Broadcast Journalism which they gained at College, followed by a BA in Media and Cultural Studies from UAL London College of Communication. Scarlett has a CELTA and is qualified to teach ESOL which she did part time before training as an FE lecturer
Prior to Scarlett's teaching career, she worked as a broadcast assistant for a radio station in London, where she was responisble for operating the studio, looking after guests and recording and editing advertisments. Scarlett has been involved in the production of several social documentaries over the years. During Scarlett's free time, she put her energy into creating social media content for small businesses and produces a weekly podcast for fun. This combination of practical experience, academic knowledge, and a passion for media enables Scarlett to effectively mentor and inspire aspiring media professionals in her creative journey.
Donal Kofteros
Dónal Kofteros is the learning manager for Level 1 and 2 Music Performance and Production and DJ Skills lecturer at CONEL College. Dónal holds a Bachelor's degree in Religious Education and Music from Mater Dei Institute, Dublin City University. Additionally, Dónal pursued a Master's degree in Popular Music Practice with a specialisation in production at BIMM (British and Irish Modern Music Institute).
With their educational background and practical experience, which spans over 15 years in the events and recorded music industries, Dónal brings a comprehensive understanding of music production and performance to the role.
Before relocating to London in 2022, Dónal served as a secondary school teacher in Dublin, Ireland and was the Head of the Music Department at Beneavin De La Salle College in Fingals. This experience solidified their passion for music and education and strengthened their commitment to empowering aspiring students in their musical journeys.
At CONEL College, Dónal strives to create a stimulating and nurturing learning environment where students can explore their creativity, develop technical skills, and find their unique artistic voices. Through teaching, production work, and DJ performances, Dónal aims to inspire and connect individuals through the transformative power of music.
