Barbering - Level 2 Diploma

This course will help you develop the skills, knowledge and experience to work in a barbershop as a barber, teaching you the latest techniques for styles such as skin fades, alongside facial hair trimming.

You will learn how to work in accordance with health and safety procedures to ensure the well-being of your clients, your colleagues, and yourself. As well as working in the college's own hairdressing salon, you will also have the opportunity to do a period of work experience. You will also work on improving your English and Maths skills.

Topics covered can include:

• Client consultation for hair services
• Following health and safety practices in the salon
• Shampooing and conditioning the hair and scalp
• Promoting products and services to clients in a salon
• Cutting short hair
• Cutting facial hair
• Working in the hair industry
• Displaying stock to promote sales in a salon
• Styling short hair
• Salon reception duties

You will need:

• Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language and Maths or equivalent Level 1 qualification

All applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, collected from written assessments, presentations, witness statements and practice observation.

Aged 16-18

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August prior to the start date of your course and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your programme then your study with us will be free. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

Adults - Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2

If you will be aged 19+ on 31st August prior to the start date of your course, up to Level 2, then your study with us will be free. You must have lived for 3 years within the EU/EEA/UK prior to the start of your course, you must have lived in the UK before 1st January 2021 and you must have permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the first day of learning. Learners can progress into employment as a Junior Barber, or learners may choose to further develop their knowledge and skills by progressing onto further courses such as Level 2 Women's Hairdressing, Level 2 Make-Up or Level 2 Beauty Therapy.
