This qualification aims to assist learners in developing their knowledge and understanding of the principles of caring for those with dementia.
This course covers areas such as person-centred care, the influence of positive communication methods, issues relating to the use of medication for those with dementia and the importance of providing appropriate activities.
The qualification doesn't infer competence in the work role but can be used to support the underpinning knowledge and understanding needed for those working in or towards a dementia care role.
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care learners are required to successfully complete 7 mandatory units:
Learners are required to have at least a grade 3 in GCSE maths and English language. Learners may also find it helpful if they have completed a level 1 qualification in health and social care prior to commencing this course, although this is not essential.
Assessment is by the completion of coursework.
Assignments are spaced out during the academic year. However, each assignment has a deadline date in which work must be completed by each unit assessment date.
If you will be aged 19+ on 31st August prior to the start date of your course, up to Level 2, then your study with us will be free. You must have lived for 3 years within the EU/EEA/UK prior to the start of your course, you must have lived in the UK before 1st January 2021 and you must have permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the first day of learning. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.
Some courses will have other associated costs, such as for specialist materials and trips. Many of our students are eligible for financial support, see here for details.
The majority of level 2 courses are free, however, our Registry and Admissions team will assess each applicant prior to enrolment to ensure this is the case and where there are fees to be paid, they will be able to support applicants with suitable options.
Once completed learners are able to apply directly for job roles within the care sector, or progress onto level 3.
