ABOUT THE COURSE

Bricklaying is one of the traditional trades both in the UK and around the world and those studying bricklaying will learn a variety of skills to enable them to build, repair and maintain the country's housing stock.

This course provides you with a hands-on approach to learning the theory and practice of bricklaying. You will gain the confidence to move onto an intermediate-level course and learn how to set up your own work area, work safely in a working environment and use the tools and materials you need to conduct basic bricklaying activities.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will learn the following units:

  • Principles of building construction, information and communication
  • Masonry structures 
  • Block laying activities 
  • Bricklaying activities
  • Cavity walling activities
  • Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • at least 5 GCSEs grade 2 and above

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Your assessments are carried out in the workshop and in classroom environments via observations and written assessments. You will need to demonstrate basic skills development in brickwork and bricklaying.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Aged 16-18

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

On successful completion of this course, you could progress to a Level 2 course such as Level 2 Caprentry, Bricklaying or Painting and Decorating. Alternatively, an apprenticeship or employment.
