CAREER PROSPECTS

ABOUT

This course is designed for adults with learning difficulties and additional needs. You will develop skills for independence as well as work on a variety of Horticulture projects in the SEND Garden. This course will guide you from the very beginning of the horticulture journey to the end point at which we consume or sell the fruits of our labour.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will:

  • Learn about the various ways we grow crops and flowers
  • Learn and then participate in garden maintenance and general housekeeping of our SEND garden area
  • Learn how to maintain garden tools to ensure they function with purpose
  • Enterprise activity – You will work towards the end goal of either selling or using the items grown

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no qualifications required but an Initial Assessment will be carried to ensure course appropriateness. Proof of support needs and/or previous support received.

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS

You will be assessed through a variety of methods based on course requirements and individual needs.

For example:

  • Observations
  • Workbooks
  • Practical activities
  • Questioning
  • Peer feedback

Throughout the course, you will be gathering evidence/information in each unit. There are different methods that evidence can be gathered to meet individual needs.

FEES

Adults - ENTRY LEVEL/LEVEL 2

This course may be free if you meet certain conditions:

  • If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
  • Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions.
  • There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course, but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.

If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.
