ABOUT
This course is for any budding electricians, who want to gain a recognised qualification, and experience that will aid them in their career to become a competent electrician. The typical electrical learner develops into a confident, intelligent, practically-minded individual, with a capacity to apply maths, science and logic in their approach to problem-solving.
Typical tasks of an electrician include:
- Visits and advises clients on the use and servicing of electrical systems and equipment;
- Diagnoses and detects faults and implements procedures to maintain efficient operation of systems and equipment;
- Plans installation methods and prepares work and test schedules for systems and equipment.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
This course has been introduced to develop the skills necessary to pursue a career in the electrotechnical industry. As part of the City and Guilds 7202, you will cover the following areas:
- Structure of the construction industry
- Fundamental safe working practices
- Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
- Site preparation or working in the construction industry
- Carry electrical installation wiring and terminations
- Fabrication techniques for electrical installations
- Electrical science and technology
The study programme consists of a vocational diploma, Maths and English, work experience and essential digital skills.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You do not need to have any previous qualifications although all applicants will need to have an interview and an initial assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
You will also need stationary, overalls and safety boots.
COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS
Throughout the course, you will be assessed on the various units by multiple choice exams, plus written and practical assessments.
FEES
Aged 16-18
If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August prior to the start date of your course and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your programme then your study with us will be free. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

Adults - Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2
If you will be aged 19+ on 31st August prior to the start date of your course, up to Level 2, then your study with us will be free. You must have lived for 3 years within the EU/EEA/UK prior to the start of your course, you must have lived in the UK before 1st January 2021 and you must have permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the first day of learning. PROGRESSION
This qualification does not lead directly to a job but does provide learners with the basic core skills training and underpinning knowledge to facilitate progression into further vocational learning such as apprenticeship programmes in electrical.
This qualification is an invaluable building block for learners wishing to embark on a career within the Building Services Industry.
Learners successfully completing this qualification can progress their careers by registering for other qualifications such as:
- Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures)
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment
Opportunities also exist for learners moving into the new developing area of sustainability with courses on electrical charging, Solar and Photovoltaic systems.
