ABOUT
This initial teacher training qualification gives you insight into the roles, responsibilities, and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions, and how to assess and provide constructive feedback.
You will gain the knowledge and skills needed to progress as a teacher or trainer in further education.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
Topics covered can include:
- The roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
- Inclusive teaching and learning approaches
- Assessment of learners
- Facilitating learning and development for individuals
- Facilitating learning and development in groups
- Understanding principles and practices of assessment
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You will need to have achieved a qualification and/or have experience in the subject area you wish to teach, at the appropriate level. In addition, you will need literacy at the appropriate level, including the ability to read and interpret written tasks and organise written information clearly and coherently.
All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS
There are three units, divided into sections and assessed through assignments, including a 20-minute micro-teaching session.
Candidates who complete this qualification will have a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. They will be able to demonstrate their sequence-learning skills and plan and deliver sessions, using appropriate resources and teaching methods. They will also be able to identify the characteristics of effective assessment and feedback.
FEES
Adults - Level 3
This course may be free if you meet certain conditions:
- If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
- If you are aged 19-23 and you do not have a full Level 3 qualification (a full L3 is the equivalent of two A-levels at A* - E grade). You need to show us proof of any qualifications you already have.
- Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions if you live in London, or 3 years if you live outside London.
- There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.
If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee yourself, or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.
