ABOUT

Barbering - Level 2 Diploma

This course will help you develop the skills, knowledge and experience to work in a barbershop as a barber, teaching you the latest techniques for styles such as skin fades, as well as facial hair trimming.

You will learn how to work in accordance with health and safety procedures to ensure the well-being of your clients, your colleagues, and yourself. As well as working in the college's own hairdressing salon, you will also have the opportunity to do a period of work experience. You will also work on improving your English and Maths skills.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Topics covered can include:

  • Client consultation for hair services
  • Following health and safety practices in the salon
  • Shampooing and conditioning the hair and scalp
  • Promoting products and services to clients in a salon
  • Cutting short hair
  • Cutting facial hair
  • Working in the hair industry
  • Displaying stock to promote sales in a salon
  • Styling short hair
  • Salon reception duties

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language and Maths or equivalent Level 1 qualification

All applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS

You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, collected from written assessments, presentations, witness statements and practice observation.

FEES

AGED 16 - 18

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August 2025 before the start date of the course, and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your course then your study with us will be free.

Adults - LEVEL 2

This course may be free for you if you meet certain conditions:

  • If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
  • If you are aged 19-23 and you do not have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade 9-4. You need to show us proof of any qualifications you already have.
  • Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions.
  • There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.

If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

PROGRESSION

Learners can progress into employment as a Junior Barber, or learners may choose to further develop their knowledge and skills by progressing onto further courses such as Level 2 Women's Hairdressing, Level 2 Make-Up or Level 2 Beauty Therapy.
