ABOUT

Applied Science Introduction - Level 1 Diploma

This course will give you a basic foundation in applied science so that you can progress to further study in a science or technology-related area.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Topics covered can include:

  • The Nature and Applications of Energy, Waves and Radiation
  • The Study of Living Systems
  • Electronics in Action
  • Concepts and Techniques for Chemistry
  • Healthy Living
  • Working in Science and Technology
  • Carrying Out a Science or Technology Project
  • Making Useful Scientific Devices
  • Using Mathematics Tools in Science and Technology
  • Using Equipment to Make Scientific Observations and Measurements
  • Forensic Detection
  • Using ICT in the Workplace

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need:

  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 1 or higher, or Functional Skills in English and Maths at Entry Level 3

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS

You will be assessed continuously, through classroom presentations, written assignments and practical reports. You will complete projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, as well as activities that introduce you to different science-related career options.

FEES

AGED 16 - 18

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August 2025 before the start date of the course, and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your course then your study with us will be free.

Adults - ENTRY LEVEL/LEVEL 2

This course may be free if you meet certain conditions:

  • If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
  • Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions.
  • There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course, but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.

If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

PROGRESSION
