About the Course

This introductory course will teach you both the practical and theory of design installation and maintenance of Solar PV systems.

This course is ideal for anyone looking for a career in electricial installation and those who want to diversify into the renewable energy sector.

This program will provide learning routes into Electrical full-time and part-time study programs and also enhance the ability to enter into an Electrical installation apprenticeship.

What Will I Study?

This course may cover:

  • Principles: Explore how solar energy transforms sunlight into electricity through photovoltaic processes. Understand the physics of solar cells, semiconductor materials, and electron behaviour
  • System Components and Architecture: Examine the details of Solar PV systems, breaking down the components of an efficient setup. Learn about the roles of inverters, charge controllers, batteries (if used), and their collaboration within the overall system architecture
  • Design and Sizing: Gain an understanding of the design of Solar PV
  • Regulatory Compliance: Gain an Understanding of the regulations associated with renewable energy, practical learning outcomes
  • Installation Techniques: Gain a practical understanding of mounting solar panels, connecting inverters, and configuring electrical components to bring a Solar PV system to life
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Gain an understanding to be able to identify and address common issues in Solar PV systems. Learn preventive maintenance techniques to enhance system longevity and efficiency
  • Safety Protocols: Be able to apply safety measure associated in construction and Building services

What Will I Need?

Please be prepared to provide your residency documents such as a passport, EU citizen ID card, UK Birth Certificate or Biometric Card. If you have been in the UK for less than 1 years or have entered the UK with a visa you will need to provide evidence that you are eligible to study in the UK - your visa, your biometric card that covers the duration of your course or any relevant home office documents to support your residency should all be provided. If you’re an EUEEA or Swiss citizen we will need to see evidence of 'Pre-Settled' or 'Settled-status' documents. Also for funding purposes we would need to see evidence of payslips if working (within the last 3 months). If you are receiving benefits (e.g JSA, ESA, Universal Credit (UC), Housing benefits etc. please provide evidence of this).

PPE Equipment Required

As the practical lessons are taking place on an active building site and due to the nature of the courses which include working with sharp tools and heavy materials at times, no training shoes will be permitted. Steel toe capped/ safety boots are advised for footwear and legs should be covered at all times while practical working is taking place.

What Can I Do After?

After completion of this course you can progress onto further study in this field.
