ABOUT THE COURSE

This Course is a continuation from the L1 Caring for Children and aims to continue the development of childcare knowledge. This course is ideal for those that are considering a career in childcare or for those that just wish to develop their knowledge on children such as new mums. The course does not carry a Licence to practice and therefore is ideal for part- time learners with a commitment of two days in college.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The course consists of 14 units taught over the academic year:

  • The Value of Play for young children
  • Young children’s development
  • Craft activities with young children
  • Accident prevention and fire safety when babysitting
  • Caring for Young Children in a babysitting environment
  • Rights and Responsibilities in relation to parenting
  • Parenting and healthy lifestyles
  • Parenting a young baby
  • Importance of play for early Learning
  • Respecting and valuing children
  • Supporting Children’s Development
  • Support children’s positive behaviour
  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet

WHAT WILL I NEED?

Learners will complete a written assessment and interview to ensure suitability of the course.

It is desirable that learners have an English qualification either GCSE grade 3 and above or Functional Skills Entry 3 to meet the written demands of the course.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

The course consists of written course work, presentation and pratical skills all internally assessed.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

Learners can progress on to the Licence to Practice level 2 course - Level 2 Early Years Practitioner or progress on the working in childcare setting in a supportive role such as a lunch-time supervisor.
