ABOUT THE COURSE

This course provides an introduction to health and social care, developing your communication and IT skills, as well as the practical and technical skills needed to work in the sector. You will study the role of the carer, exploring their responsibilities, identifying the needs of others, as well as understanding the variety of jobs in the industry. You will also get to look more closely at personal care and learn how to create activities and learning experiences for both children and adults.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Topics covered can include:

  • Range of service provision and roles
  • Health and safety
  • Introductory awareness of equality and inclusion
  • Understanding principles and values of health and social care
  • Encouraging children and young people to eat healthily
  • Introduction to healthy lifestyles
  • Awareness of protection and safeguarding
  • Introduction to person-centred support
  • Introduction to communication

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 2 or above
  • An Enhanced DBS check

All applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, collected from written assessments, presentations, witness statements and practice observation.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances.
