ABOUT THE COURSE

This course will give you an introduction to the hair and make-up industry, giving you basic skills that can help you develop a career in media, fashion, hair and photographic make-up.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Topics covered can include:

  • The art of colouring hair
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Body and face painting
  • Working in the makeup industry 
  • Anatomy and physiology 
  • Research, develop and showcase designs 
  • Hair artistry 
  • Creative makeup artistry 
  • Health and safety
  • The art of applying makeup
  • Photographic makeup including Vintage
  • Plaiting and twisting
  • Create an image-based theme

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You do not need to have any previous qualifications.

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will be assessed on your completed practical tasks, against industry standards. Written assessment will include multiple choice questions, paper-based exams and written assignments.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

This qualification could lead to a job as a make-up artist, working in one of the following establishments:

  • Hair salon
  • Cruise ship
  • Hotel salon
  • Theatre or television

You could progress onto an advanced training course, such as:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up
  • Level 3 Diploma in Woman's hairdressing
  • Level 3 Diploma in theatrical, special effects, hair and media make-up
  • Level 3 Certificate in Hairdressing
