ESOL means English for Speakers of Other Languages. ESOL courses are for people who speak English as a second or other language, and who are resident or permanently settled in the UK.
These courses will help you to increase your independence, as well as develop the language skills you need for everyday life, employment and further study.
They start from Pre-Entry Level for those with little or no English and continue through, Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2, and Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2.
Classes run in the mornings, afternoons and evenings with some Saturday courses at Tottenham Centre.
There are lots of different course options to meet your needs. You can start courses at different times in the year. You can join at various points between September and early March if there are places available.
ESOL courses provide you with a thorough introduction to the English language, covering all four skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing. You will also be able to improve your grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
You must be resident or permanently settled in the UK.
All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
Your skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing will be assessed through examinations, and your tutor will advise you when you have the language skills needed to pass the exams.
If you will be aged 19+ on 31st August prior to the start date of your course, up to Level 2, then your study with us will be free. You must have lived for 3 years within the EU/EEA/UK prior to the start of your course, you must have lived in the UK before 1st January 2021 and you must have permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the first day of learning. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.
Some courses will have other associated costs, such as for specialist materials and trips. Many of our students are eligible for financial support, see here for details.
You may progress to the next level of ESOL, vocational studies within the College or other opprortunities in education.
