ABOUT THE COURSE

The T Level in Finance is equivalent to three A levels.

This course is tailored for students who have an interest in pursuing a career in Finance. In the first year, you'll develop the fundamental skills required for various financial roles and explore a variety of potential specialisations within the industry. Here's what you can expect:

  • Gain insight into the business environment and its relevance to finance
  • Explore different career paths within finance and accounting professions
  • Learn about security and risk management in financial contexts
  • Understand the importance of data-driven innovation/analytics in shaping finance

Throughout the course, you will develop essential skills such as research, analysis, project management, professionalism, and ethical decision-making within the finance industry. Your learning experience will involve:

You will have access to dedicated T Level rooms and state-of-the-art facilities on our campus, including the latest financial software to support your learning journey.

In the second year, you will specialise in retail and commercial banking.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Maths and English. Preferable grade 5 in Maths and 5 in English

Work Experience is a vital part of the course and you will be supported in finding a work placement relevant to your study.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will complete a set of written exams and an employer-set project in June of the first year.

You'll also have to complete an externally set assignment that covers the specialist area of Retail and Commercial Banking Analyst at the end of the second year.

Aged 16-18

MEET SOME OF THE TEACHERS

Mohamed Koroma

Mohamed has been an Accounting lecturer at City and Islington College since 2016. Mo is a PGCE (Westminster University, London) qualified trainer and assessor and enjoys sharing knowledge and practical skills in Accounting and Finance. Mo’s philosophy is deeply rooted in staying current with industry developments through CPDs in Accounting and Education.

Mo is an ACCA/FCCA certified accountant with over 15 years in the public sector with skills in budgeting, financial reporting, and performance management underpinned by developing and implementing robust accounting systems to support internal controls and uphold ethical standards.

Mo also holds an ACCA Certificate in Digital Innovation for Finance (2023) and is certified in Business Objects Designer/Reporter/Supervisor and IBM Cognos reporting.

Mo has a passion for working in education and has supported over a thousand learners in Lifelong Learning and Employability. Mo’s career also spans adult education services (Haringey Adult Learning Service, North London), vocational training services (Mary Ward Centre, Central London), and Higher Education (University of Hertfordshire).


Callistus Ogbu

Callistus joined City and Islington College in October 2018. He began his teaching career in 1999 and spent the next 18 years teaching, lecturing and coordinating subjects and programmes such as A Level Economics and Business Studies; BTEC Business Level 2 and 3; HNC/HND BTEC Business; The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 3 and 4; The Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) Level 3 and 5 Programmes; BSC Hon’s Business Management and Foundation Degrees at Lambeth College, Barnet and Southgate College and University College Croydon respectively.

Before his teaching career, Callistus spent almost five years working as a Financial Consultant with a major financial institution where he rose to the position of a team leader. Providing advice to clients on Insurance, Investments, protection, mortgage, personal pension products etc.

Callistus is highly qualified with a BA (Hons) in Business Studies and Marketing from UEL, an Associate Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB) a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), from the University of Greenwich and an MA in Business Financial Economics from University of Greenwich

In addition to teaching, he is an associate examiner for A Level Economics for a major examination board. Callistus has a deep interest in inspiring, motivating and educating learners to achieve their best.
