ABOUT THE COURSE

Our Netball Academy allows you to train in our state-of-the-art facilities including a world-class equipped fitness centre and sports hall, alongside gaining a diploma in sport qualification.

Joining the academy will provide you with training, support, guidance, coaching and professional work experience opportunities.

Our sport diploma courses are specifically tailored to netball and provide you with the education and skills to further develop your career opportunities and gain access to employment or higher level qualifications.

The sport diploma courses range from Level 1 to Level 3. Your initial application will be for a Level 1 sport course, however this will change when you attend an interview, depending on your predicted grades/qualifications.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

All players in our Netball Academy will receive:

  • A bespoke Level 1 to Level 3 Sport Diploma course tailored to netball
  • Free training kit and tracksuit
  • 6 hours per week (3 sessions of 2 hours) of professional netball coaching
  • Wednesday afternoon match in a college netball league
  • Affiliation with England Netball
  • Work experience opportunities
  • Complimentary tickets for learners to selected high profile matches
  • Opportunities to work with the club sports analyst in using VeoCam to analyse games
  • On-site medical support for injury prevention and rehabilitation
  • Free access to the college gym and fitness suite under coach supervision
  • Free fitness, strength and conditioning, exercise and nutrition programmes designed and monitored for you

In addition to the above, Elite Academy players will receive:

  • Opportunity to become a college-sponsored athlete – value of up to £2500 per year

WHAT WILL I NEED?

To be considered for the Netball Academy, you must be:

  • Aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you start your course
  • Enrolled onto either a full-time or part-time course at The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London or any college within the Captial City College Group (Westminster Kingsway or City & Islington)
  • Successful in a netball academy trial

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

To be considered for the netball academy you should attend one of our trials (more information and registration at www.conel.ac.uk/student-life/sports-academies/). In regards to your diploma qualification, this will be assessed through a number of practical, theory and presentation activities.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

There is no cost to being part of the netball academy. Both the sport diploma course and netball academy are free for all 16-18 year olds.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

You could progress to employment in the Sport and Active Leisure sector or progress to higher level qualifications.
