About the Course

The hospitality team member apprenticeship covers a broad range and includes those working behind bars, in restaurants, conference and banqueting and cafes to more specialist roles such as barista, housekeeping, food preparation and concierge. The focus of this apprenticeship is a high standard of customer service and quality of service.

What will the apprentice study?

  • Understand what hospitality means; the culture of the industry and why delivering a customer experience to meet and exceed customer’s expectations is so important to hospitality businesses.
  • Appreciate the importance of hospitality behaviours such as personal conduct, being adaptable, using initiative and communicating with a diverse range of people.
  • Know the range of businesses and establishments that make up the hospitality industry, their differences and similarities and the variety of job roles and progression opportunities that are available
  • Choose to specialise in Food and beverage service, Alcholic beverage service, Barista, Food production, Concierge and guest services, Conference and Events Operations or Reception.

Entry criteria

You will need:

  • To be aged 16 or older
  • To be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week with 20% of your normal working hours set aside for you to complete your training and study
  • To be working at Level 2 in English and Maths

All applicants must have an interview and assessment in English and Maths to confirm that the apprenticeship is suitable for them.

Employers may also set additional entry requirements, as a prerequisite to working with them.

How is the apprentice assessed?

The End Point Assessment (EPA) will include:

  • An on demand test
  • Practical observation
  • Culinary challenge
  •  Professional discussion.

On completion of this course, you can progress onto further study in this field or into a career in the hospitality industry.
