ABOUT THE COURSE

This one-year course will develop your skills and knowledge in Health and Social Care, alongside improving your English and Maths, to help you progress into the sector. This course is available to learners who have completed the level 2 qualification in health and social care previously. Learners on this course will also study maths and English GCSE. The course is studied on-site at Camden Road campus. Learners are expected to attend all lessons that have been timetabeld throughout the year. During this course you will also have the opportunity to complete additional training activities, such as a bespoke Safeguarding training session that is created for the care sector. Ths also includes the updates from the Keeping children Safe in Education 2022. This study programme is made-up of various componants. These include maths, English, Work placement and Enrichment activities. Work placement opportunities are within a relevant setting according to your chosen career pathway. We are partnered with most London Hospitals and our work placement officers will work with you to secure the best placement opportunity available.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will study a combination of theory, applied theory and practical topics across a broad range of subjects.

Topics covered can include:

  • Human Lifespan Development
  • Working in Health and Social Care
  • Meeting Individual Support Needs
  • Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need

  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above or an equivalent Level 2 qualification
  • An Enhanced DBS check
  • A reference from your previous school/college

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

The course is assessed through a combination of coursework activities, theoretical and practical assignments, assessment tests, exams and case studies. There are two externally assessed units. All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. Assignments are awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade. The external examinations are sat in January 2024 following your course start date of September 2023.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

You can progress to further study, such as an Access to Higher Education course, such as Access to Nursing or Access to Teaching - or a relevant HNC or HND. Other progression routes include apprenticeships or other employment, such as voluntary or paid work within a care setting.
