ABOUT THE COURSE

The qualification is intended as the first step on the adult learner's pathway to Higher Education. It is ideal for learners who wish to study on an Access to HE course in humanities or social science, but do not meet the entry requirements or need a year of consolidation and focus on study skills before embarking on a Level 3 course. The course will equip you with the foundation skills and knowledge required for humanities and social science.

  • Essay Writing
  •  Improving Punctuation and Grammar
  • Referencing Skills
  • Introduction to Humanities
  • Introduction to Sociology
  • Ethical Issues in Social Policy
  • Reading and Comprehension of Texts 

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • To be aged 19 or older 
  • To study for GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above and to gain grades (4-9) should the student wish to progress to an Access course 
  • All applicants must have an interview and pre-assessment (written) to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Assessment is continuous and over the course of the academic year. This course is assessed through coursework assignments: Essay Writing, Speaking and Listening, Report Writing and Critical thinking along with introductory units such as Introduction to Sociology and Ethical Social Policy. This may include examinations throughout the course, which are set and marked by your teachers and externally moderated by OCN London.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

Once you have completed your pre-access course you can progress to any number of humanities related Access to HE courses. The course has a strong record of progression into Level 3 Access courses.
