Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshu - Chinese (Speaking and Listening) - Level 1

Our HSK Level 1 Chinese – Speaking and Listening course is the perfect introduction to Mandarin for absolute beginners. In just 11 weeks (16.5 hours), you will gain the skills to handle simple conversations in everyday situations, learning 150 essential words and 50 key grammar points. This is the first step on the internationally recognised HSK pathway towards higher-level Chinese proficiency.

You will build confidence in spoken and listening skills through practical topics, including:

• Pinyin and pronunciation
• Numbers, time, and weather
• Family, school, hobbies, and work
• Shopping, food, travel, and directions
• An introduction to Chinese culture

Students will complete regular classwork to practise speaking and listening. At the end of the 11 weeks, you will take a Summative Assessment to demonstrate your progress. If you wish, you may register independently to sit the official HSK Level 1 exam (£20 fee).

Please be prepared to provide your residency documents such as a passport, Evisa / Sharecode , UK Birth Certificate or Biometric Card. If you have been in the UK for less than 3 years or have entered the UK with a visa you will need to provide evidence that you are eligible to study in the UK - your Visa or Biometric card that covers the duration of your course or any relevant home office documents to support your residency. For funding purposes we would need to see evidence of payslips if working (within the last 3 months). If you are receiving benefits (e.g JSA, ESA, Universal Credit (UC).

No initial assessment or prior knowledge of Chinese is required. This course is open to complete beginners.

This is a full cost course of £199

On successful completion, you will be able to use simple Chinese phrases, meet basic communication needs, and continue your studies to HSK Level 2 and beyond.
