About the Course

Interested in learning Adobe Photoshop but not sure where to start? This 6‑hour taster course offers a friendly, practical introduction to the industry‑standard software. 

The course covers essential tools and techniques for editing images. You will learn how to navigate key panels, tools, and menus efficiently, as well as how to work with layers to create simple graphics. You’ll learn through hands‑on activities in a supportive classroom environment—no prior experience needed.

Perfect for career changers, creatives, or anyone looking to boost their digital skills, this short course is a great way to build confidence and explore your next step in design or photography.

What Will I Study?

You will learn:

  • Working with layers and layer organisation
  • Basic image editing and retouching techniques
  • Using selection tools to isolate and edit specific areas
  • Adjusting colour, brightness, and contrast
  • Adding and formatting text for design projects
  • Using brushes and simple effects to enhance visuals
  • Exporting and saving work for different purposes (print and digital)

What Will I Need?

You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and you will be invited to take part in group discussions. You should be able to use numbers and do simple measurements and calculations.

You should be confident and competent with a Mac or Windows PC, proficient with a mouse and keyboard, and proficient with creative software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or equivalent. You should be able to download, upload, save, open, and retrieve files. Some awareness of design for print or any other art/design practice would be useful.

Please have your residency documents ready, such as a passport, EU citizen ID card, UK Birth Certificate, or Biometric Card. If you have been in the UK for less than 3 years or have entered the UK with a visa, you will need to provide evidence that you are eligible to study in the UK - your visa, your biometric card that covers the duration of your course or any relevant Home Office documents to support your residency should all be uploaded.
