Finance for Freelancers (Creative Skills Academy)

This course is designed for creative freelancers at any stage of their journey—whether you’re just starting out or already established.

In this online workshop, you’ll learn the essentials of managing money as a freelancer or small business owner. The session will show you practical ways to stay on top of your finances.

Your trainer, David Thomas, has been helping freelancers and small businesses build their financial skills since 2005. With a background in journalism and production—and experience leading departments at the BBC—David brings a wealth of real-world knowledge to his teaching.

Areas covered in the session include:

• How to budget in your personal life when working freelance
• Tax and national insurance for sole traders and limited companies
• How to save time on paperwork
• How to prepare for HMRC’s Making Tax Digital project
• What an accountant can (and can’t) do for you
• Getting paid on time
• Planning to think like a business

You will need to be eligible to study in the UK. Upon enrolment, you will be asked to upload residency and income documents for college funding purposes.
