On 14 November, a group of Capital City College (CCC) students from the college’s Angel and King’s Cross centres visited the Lacoste Head Office in Central London to meet their mentors as part of the brand’s Committed Crocodiles Self-Confidence programme.

The programme is part of an initiative by the luxury sports fashion brand which provides opportunities for young people through four different programmes focussing on self-confidence, manufacturing qualifications, retail qualifications and starting a business.

The 10 CCC students, who are studying a range of A Level and Business courses, are all enrolled on the Committed Crocodiles for Society Self-Confidence Mentorship Programme, which will continue until June 2024.

During the event, the students were introduced to their mentors, all of whom are permanent employees of Lacoste UK working in a range of professional roles. They also had the opportunity to learn more about the Committed Crocodiles Self-Confidence Programme, which aims to support young adults by helping them to develop confidence and self-esteem, identifying their talents and potential, and helping them to build their professional network.

The programme will include a range of activities such as monthly mentor meetings, discovery days, shadowing days, CV and interview preparation as well as a range of workshops to support students in building their skills while developing their knowledge of professional environments and practices.

Affinity Edwards, who is studying A Levels in Economics, Chemistry and Maths, said: “From my Lacoste mentoring partnership, I hope to gain valuable insights into the fashion industry, particularly in areas like marketing, branding, and sustainability. I’m looking to learn from my mentor’s experiences and expertise, which could help me develop my skills and expand my understanding of the business side of fashion. Additionally, I hope to build a strong network and receive guidance on navigating my career path, while also gaining inspiration and motivation to pursue my goals. Overall, I want to make the most of this opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.”
