ABOUT
This course is for musicians who want to enter the music industry as performers, producers, singers/songwriters, or those who want to get into a business role within the industry. You will study and develop skills in performance, production, composition, musicianship, and music business, and will have the opportunity to record in our state-of-the-art recording studios.
This hands-on course is both practical and theoretical, focusing on vocational projects to develop your performance, composition, and production skills, as well as your understanding of the music industry and the job roles within it.
We have industry-standard rehearsal and technical facilities to help prepare you for ensemble performance and music production.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
Whilst on this one-year course you will study:
- An introduction to music performance
- An introduction to music production
- Listening skills for music performance and production
- Composition and songwriting
- Contextual research for music performance and production
- Music performance skills and practice
- Music production skills and practice
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You will need:
- Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and Maths or an equivalent Level 1 qualification at Merit (and Functional Skills in English and Maths)
All applicants must have an interview and audition to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS
The course is internally assessed throughout the year. You will work individually or in groups on projects that demonstrate your practical skills, written skills, listening skills, and presentation skills. Towards the end of the year, you will undertake a Final Major Project which is internally assessed and externally moderated by the awarding body.
FEES
AGED 16 - 18
If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August 2025 before the start date of the course, and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your course then your study with us will be free.

Adults - LEVEL 2
This course may be free for you if you meet certain conditions:
- If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
- If you are aged 19-23 and you do not have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade 9-4. You need to show us proof of any qualifications you already have.
- Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions.
- There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.
If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

PROGRESSION
You could progress on to a Level 3 course at the college or go straight into employment in the recording industry.
