This course is a vocational qualification designed for learners who are interested in pursuing a career in the Health and Social Care sector. The qualification is recognised by employers and universities in the UK and provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for further study or employment in the field of health and social care.
This diploma covers a wide range of subjects related to Health and Social Care, including human lifespan development, health and social care values, communication, interpersonal skills, promoting health and well-being, and understanding mental health. It also includes practical units in which learners will develop their skills in a range of care settings, such as residential care homes, hospitals, and community care services.
This course is suitable for learners who wish to progress to higher education in this field. It is also suitable for those who wish to develop their skills for personal interest or to improve their employment prospects in other fields.
Extended Diplomas have two one-year programmes. You need to finish the first year before moving on to the second.
This course consists of two separate qualifications. In your first year of study, you will work towards the Level 3 90-Credit Diploma. Following successful completion of this qualification, you will be able to progress to the Extended Diploma. Our Extended Diplomas offer equivalent UCAS points to studying 3 A Levels.
To achieve the qualification, learners must complete a series of mandatory and optional units, as well as assessments and practical activities. The qualification is assessed through a combination of coursework and external examinations conducted by the exam board Pearsons.

All applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
Assessment is continuous throughout the year through completing written assignments and projects as well as performing practical work that is assessed internally within the college.
There will also be some written examinations, assessed externally via Pearson, the BTEC awarding body.
