ABOUT
This course will provide you with an introduction to the hair and beauty industry, working in our professional salons and developing communication and customer care skills.
You will develop essential transferable skills in health and safety, as well as begin to develop specialist hairdressing and beauty therapy technical knowledge, including assisting with skin and hand care, reception duties, and setting and dressing hair. These skills will help you take the next step towards further training at Level 2, specialising in either hairdressing or beauty therapy.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
Topics covered can include:
- Consulting clients
- Styling and finishing
- Setting and dressing
- Assisting with hair colouring
- Blow drying
- Assisting with reception duties
- Shampooing and conditioning
- Teamwork
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You do not need to have any previous qualifications.
All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS
You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, collected from written assessments, presentations, witness statements and practice observation.
FEES
AGED 16 - 18
If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August 2025 before the start date of the course, and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your course then your study with us will be free.

Adults - ENTRY LEVEL/LEVEL 2
This course may be free if you meet certain conditions:
- If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
- Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions.
- There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course, but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.
If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

PROGRESSION
Although the progression route to Level 2 is not automatic, following successful completion of this course you may progress onto:
- Apprenticeships
- Level 2 Hairdressing
- Level 2 Beauty Therapy
- Level 2 Nail Technology
- Level 2 Barbering
- Employment - You may go straight into a salon as a salon assistant/junior.
The course also provides skills transferable to other subject areas.
