Hairdressing - Level 2 Diploma

This course will help you develop the necessary skills, experience and techniques for you to become a qualified hairdresser. 

You will learn practical skills for a range of salon activities, from conducting client consultations to cutting and dressing hair. The course will explore how different shampoos and conditioners affect the hair and scalp, and you will study a variety of colouring and lighting products and techniques.

You will learn how to work by health and safety procedures to ensure the well-being of your clients, your colleagues, and yourself. As well as working in the college's hairdressing salon, you will also have the opportunity to have a period of work experience. You will also work on improving your English and Maths skills.

Topics covered can include:

• Promoting additional services or products to clients
• Providing hairdressing consultation services
• Cutting hair using basic techniques
• Colouring hair using a variety of techniques
• Styling and dressing hair
• Perming hair
• Shampooing and conditioning hair
• Creating an image based on a theme
• Working with colleagues within beauty-related industries
• Health and Safety

You will need:

• Functional Skills at Entry Level 3 or above in English or Maths, or equivalent

All applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, collected from written assessments, presentations, witness statements and practice observation.

Aged 16-18

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August prior to the start date of your course and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your programme then your study with us will be free. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

Adults - Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2

If you will be aged 19+ on 31st August prior to the start date of your course, up to Level 2, then your study with us will be free. You must have lived for 3 years within the EU/EEA/UK prior to the start of your course, you must have lived in the UK before 1st January 2021 and you must have permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the first day of learning. Although the progression route to Level 3 is not automatic, following successful completion of this course you may progress onto: - ApprenticeshipsLevel 2 HairdressingLevel 3 Hairdressing- Full timeLevel 3 hairdressing - EmploymentYou may go straight into employment as a junior stylist. The course also provides skills transferable to other subject areas such as Beauty Therapy, Nail Technology and Barbering.
