Counselling Skills Introduction - Level 2 Award

If you want to learn basic counselling skills in listening and responding, relating to helping roles, then this course is for you!

You may also be interested in finding out more about counselling to help you decide whether this is an opportunity you would like to consider studying further.

This course commences in January 2027 for 1 Term.

You will study the following learning outcomes:

• Working within the limitations of a helping role
• Establish boundaries for helping roles
• Communicate empathetic understanding
• Focus on the helpee's agenda
• Understand the importance of self-awareness in helping at work
• Use listening and responding skills
• Use review and feedback to develop initial counselling skills

There are no entry requirements for this course. You will be invited to an interview to see if this course is right for you.

All work is internally assessed via coursework.

Adults - LEVEL 2

This course may be free for you if you meet certain conditions:

• If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
• If you are aged 19-23 and you do not have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade 9-4. You need to show us proof of any qualifications you already have.
• Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions.
• There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.

If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

Once you have completed this qualification, you may choose to progress to the CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills from September 2027.
